IPPNW 6th North Asia Regional Meeting
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

First of all, we, the participants of this Regional Meeting, wish to express our sincere appreciation to H.E. Mr. Enkhbayar Nambar, President of Mongolia, and his Government for supporting the Regional Meeting. We also wish to extend our cordial thanks to the Mongolian Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (MPPNW, President: Dr. Tuvshinbat Nyamsuren), the Blue Banner (President: H.E Dr. Ochirbat Punsalmaa and Director: Dr. Enkhsaikhan Jargalsaikhan) for jointly hosting the Meeting, and the Japanese Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (JPPNW, President: Dr Shizuteru Usui) for giving generous support to the Meeting. We are also very grateful for excellent contribution made by the the Mongolian staff for making this Meeting a great success.

During the opening session, we expressed our condolences to the victims of the tragic accident of a helicopter here in Mongolia and to the late Mr. Iccho Ito, the former Mayor of Nagasaki, who passed away recently.

As a result of discussions at the Meeting, it was agreed that further efforts should be focused on the following areas, with a view to strengthening the future activities of IPPNW within the North Asia region:

1. Strengthening the IPPNW infrastructure within North Asia region, especially revitalizing the activities of affiliates of the Republic of Korea and China
2. Conducting a study on the health and environmental effects of nuclear bombings, nuclear weapon testings and accidents of nuclear plants, etc.
3. Further promoting the experts' studies on the practical measures necessary to establish a "Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone in Northeast Asia"
4. Reporting the outcomes of items 2. and 3. above to medical communities and students as well as to lay citizens worldwide for educating them
5. Proposing a workshop on "From Legacy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki toward the establishment of North-East Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone " at the coming IPPNW World Congress in New Delhi, India, in 2008
6. Engaging other activities toward a peaceful and environmentally sound world in coordination with IPPNW and other organizations worldwide
7. The affiliates will develop a regional plan to participate in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), including a timetable for specific activities.

All the participants warmly welcomed the offer of the JPPNW to host the next North Asia Regional Meeting in Japan unless another concrete proposal is made.

The participants further welcomed the kind offer of the MPPNW to take appropriate measures to publicize and disseminate the outcomes of this North Asia Regional Meeting to the regional and international communities,with the help of the Blue Banner and support by JPPNW during the period leading to the next IPPNW North Asia Regional Meeting.
