Aiming for Prevention: International Initiatives

Aiming For Prevention logoIANSA Public Health Network

IPPNW was a founding member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA). In 1998, IPPNW helped found the global network of over 800 civil society organizations working to stop the proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons (SALW). In early 2005, IPPNW assumed the role of international coordinator of IANSA's Public Health Network, to focus on addressing firearm violence from a public health perspective. Download a one page introduction to the IANSA Public Health Network here. IANSA continues to serve as the NGO liaison to the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms Meetings at the U.N.

Many IPPNW affiliates are themselves members of IANSA, and participate with events, education, and advocacy in the annual Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence.
